Curious

Can someone explain Tom Waits to me. Great actor, probably a great songwriter and poet, maybe even a good pianist. But, I haven’t been able to find out really because of his voice. I’m used to unusual voices. Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen are all performers I enjoy. But, Waits, I have a hard time getting past his voice. He’s had a long career, been inducted into the Rock-n-Roll hall of fame, and had tons of people cover his music. Is his music just not for me, or am I missing something. If not for his tortured vocals, he has all the hallmarks of someone I would enjoy.
