A Great Lesson Learned

After more than half a year posting art videos on YouTube weekly, I’m going to put this effort on the backburner. I’ll still be posting new art videos there, but I’ve also seen that this venture is unlikely to grow into a sustainable business model.

I’ve had marginal growth on my channel, but that mostly involved posting two or three times a week. If this was my dream, this would be fine, and I would pursue it wholeheartedly. It was always intended to be a side hustle to share my art for my art’s sake, and it can still be that. I just don’t foresee it growing into a money-making business in its own right.

I learned a lot about video editing and shooting. I came in as a complete noob, and I have developed my directorial skills up to a solid, beginner’s footing. I’ve used DaVinci Resolve and my phone to do all the work, and it’s given me a real appreciating for what goes into making more elaborate and expensive media. Props to all of you whom make great content.

I’ve also discovered quite a bit about my art and techniques. The painstaking editing process means I’ve had to live up close with every mark, and that’s helped me work out all sorts of kinks and time wasters in my process. It has also afforded me the distance to see what I like and what I don’t and has helped make my art more “me.”

So, my art videos will continue, just on a less, structured schedule. It’s time for me to get back to writing, I think.
