Yep. ALWAYS put your toys away, kids! Otherwise, they will steal the ancient talisman that keeps you immortal when you least expect it bad things will happen to you! Yes, bad bad sorts of things.
I bet no one thought this would happen when they saw her first appearance (except Scott, of course).
Actually, it was foreshadowed pretty heavily that Tara was going to rebel in some fashion when she made that little comment after finishing up their first battle by laying a kiss on Greg. Also, we’ve had numerous hints that Wissenschaft tends to screw up when putting little touches like failsafes and security on his toys. I’m pretty sure the Oppression Wave was set to turn on him, too.
I’ll admit I hadn’t guessed the method. When I saw she was gating in, I had the idea, for some reason, that Tara was carrying the spear and was going to stab Wisey with it; hence my ‘he just got stabbed in the back’ comment. I guess I either missed or forgot he had it on his person.
I don’t think you missed it, because we never really indicated who was holding onto the spear. Or the noose, either. As far as everything else you said, you’re spot on.
To tell the truth, we never really said how Thu-Lynn had access to all these powerful toys, how they came into her possession. Nor did we give a good explanation of what the Spear of Destiny is. Sure, people can Google it, or visit Wikipedia, but how it relates to this story is still ambiguous (well, not to me.) Maybe, when we print the fourth trade paperback, I’ll include some extra content that makes all this clear. I should have introduced the crystal skull (which is not the Mitchell-Hedges skull) much earlier, for example.
Was there some foreshadowing a betrayal? Sure. I met more specifically that she would try to kill him. There are plenty of villains’ children that turn on their parents, yet stop short of trying to actually harm them. Take Persephone for instance, who doesn’t support her father’s actions, but doesn’t take arms against him either.
Ok, one baddie dead, or close to it, minus his magical “I-am-teh-awesome-sause” toy. Hoping no one has forgotten the many tentacled world destroyers lurking about in the background.
What, you don’t think it would make a good prom date for Tara?
